I prefer this angle and this color version. Adds an air of extra mystery about the image! Great work!

Absolutely a masterpiece! If you don't mind me asking, where did you take this photograph?

Behind The Lens

Location

It was on one of those submarine tours, in Cancun, Mexico.

Time

Around 10 AM, the water was cold!!! brrrrrrr!!!

Lighting

Nothing, I really could not do anything to control lighting, I just thought it looked great, I love those reflections in the water and in the statue.

Equipment

It was a few years ago, when underwater photography in point and shoot cameras was something that make people yell at you, "Watch out!!! the camera is going to get wet!!!" It was fun to see the expressions of the people trying to warn me about the camera, I think smartphones with underwater capabilities take better photos right now. Any way I'm pretty sure the model was Olympus Though 6010 , It was a great camera!, but it did not have great resolution or sensor.

Inspiration

The place was magical, I had to take some pictures, I almost felt like I was in a lost city underwater, or some sci-fi movie.

Editing

Yes, but just a little bit, the reason was mainly because of the bad quality of the picture, as I was saying before it was a low resolution camera, with a point and shoot tiny sensor and a generic lens. So the post-processing was mainly contrast, brightness and a little bit of sharpening.

In my camera bag

A couple of years ago, I switched to Sony cameras and never looked back. Right now my main camera is a sony A7II with a 35mm lens and a 85mm and a couple of filters. I'm looking for a wide angle lens, but man!!! Aren't they expensive?. I also have an air blower and a soft cloth to clean the lens on the go. I like to travel light. Also my Ray-ban lenses I don't go out without them and my baseball hat.

Feedback

My advice is there are tons of underwater tours in every touristic destination, take some time when you are in vacation to do it. It will be a great experience and you can take some cool photos. I think if I had a better camera the picture would have been much better, but also it was a little bit complicated to take the photograph because of the underwater equipment we had (I don't have any experience as a diver or antyhing). So I would recommend an underwater camera or smartphone, with a GOOD strap around your wrist, and something small l that you can operate with one hand. In my experience it was difficult to take the picture with both hands because I was using one hand to grab a safety rope, and I was afraid to let go and go into the deep ocean hahaha, just kidding, it was very safe, but I had to use one hand to take the picture and the other to stay on track. If I had to do it again, I think I would use a Sony A6000 camera, something compact with a great sensor and lens and an underwater household.
