Location
This photo was taken on our property near the earth boxes my husband made to grow vegetables. The sunflowers really flourished this year! We are located in West Central Florida where gardening is quite challenging because of the intense sun and heat!Time
The photo was taken about 1 or 2 pm in the afternoon. Not the best time...or event decent time to snap good photos, but sometimes you just have to get that shot!Lighting
Being in sunny Florida, the afternoon light was not good for photography. When in that situation, sometimes playing with angles and positions help to find better shadowing and color. Blown out color is a nightmare!Equipment
This was probably the first shot with my brand new Nikon D7100. No tripod-just handheld and I don't believe I used a flash. I always shoot in manual mode and it is best on these macro shots to use manual focus. I was pretty impressed with the results from my new camera!Inspiration
Nature inspires me! Macro photography is quite challenging and if you show me a flower or take me into a gardening area in a store, I am instantly grabbing my camera and shooting. Like so many other photographers, I carry a point and shoot in my purse! These particular flowers just had to be immortalized in pictures. They were so vibrant and healthy and, of course, I was itching to play with the new camera!Editing
I am not sure I did post processing for this photo. If anything, I might have adjusted colors to make them a little more vibrant due to the time of day and lighting when the picture was taken. In my camera bag
I usually carry my smaller lenses in my bag. My wireless remote is always with me, lens rag and cleaner and battery chargers are a must have. I even carry the book that came with my cameras just in case I need a reference! I do have a few filters...they are light and small. When I am out running around, I have a photographer's vest so I can carry my cell phone, my wireless remote and lens cleaning stuff.Feedback
I am a work-in-progress so my best advice is study light and practice! Use different settings on your camera..take the same photo at different settings. Take the same photo at different times of the day. Experiment and have fun!
