Behind The Lens
Location
Taken in my garden in Kwa Zulu Natal South Africa. I was killing time with the dogs in the garden and this opportunity presented itselfTime
The photo was about midday and was in a shady area hence the flashLighting
Flash was a must due to the shade and hand holding of the camera. It was too deep in bushes to use a tripod.Equipment
The camera was a Canon 70D with a 100 mm macro lensInspiration
I am very lucky to live an a region abundant with animal and insect life. I sometimes walk around looking for these opportunities while I chill over the weekend. I have always wanted a front on of a hunting spider but it is not always easy as they move around and jump quite a bit.Editing
Post processing was minimal and the basic adjustments were done on the raw in canon DPP softwareIn my camera bag
One the MACRO side I have two flashes (in-case I need a second) , tripod, flash external battery, diffusion reflectors, gorilla grip, scissors (to clean away grass and sticks), a small droplet spray bottle, lens cloths, remote triggers (convenient) spare battery, extension tube, extension arm to position flash to the side tablet for remote exposure and review for special cases. Camera is either a 70D or 6D and the lens is a 100 mm macro. If it is a particularly overcast day or dark shady area I also take a ring light which helps to illuminate for manual focus situations.Feedback
Patience and practice, Take time sit quietly take time (an hour or two) learn to see macro subjects and observe their habits then prepare and be waiting. A good beverage also helps if you are going to spend time in a spot. Take a small folding chair with it is a lot more comfortable than sitting or crouching on the ground
