Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in La Jolla at the Scripps Pier

Time

The hour was around 7:00 pm at sunset

Lighting

Twice a year there is a 2 day event were the sun sets in the middle of the scripps pier. I got around 2 hours early to the pier just to get a good position because it gets very crowded, ast the sun went down the marine layer started coming in and just in the nick of time the marine layer disipated enough to show the sun and some great color in the sky

Equipment

This was shot with the Canon 6D w/ tokina 16-28mm ISO 100 f/11 1/5

Inspiration

The alignment od the sun with the pier is a shot that ive always wanted to get and i still want to get the full sun right in the middle so i will still be going back untill i get the right shot.

Editing

Usually my landscape photography has the normal ammount of post-processing the regular curves, contrast, white, black, shadow and highlights.

In my camera bag

Normally what i have in my bag is my 2 favorite lenses the canon 24-105 f/4 and the Tokina 16-28 mm i also carry my Canon 5Ds and 2 separate sd cards of 32g each. The Manfrotto 055 CF tripod with the Q5 hybrid head, and dont forget the extra battey.

Feedback

Check the dates of alignment on the desired spot, i used an app called TPE ( the photographers ephemeris) if it is a very famous place try an arrive 1 to 2 hours before to get a good spot, shoot at a low iso and your best f/stop to get all the detail in the frame and use a shutter remot since it will be a long exposure most of the time.
