Behind The Lens

Location

This picture of moon jellyfish was taken during a visit to the Portland Aquarium in November 2014

Time

I visited the aquarium in the morning. Of course given that these jellyfish are nocturnal they're displayed in a darkened portion of the aquarium.

Lighting

Working with in the darkened space, without a tripod, was quite a challenge. Additionally the lights in the display, shift through the range of the visual spectrum. This was the only picture that managed to keep the constantly moving jellyfish focused with a good fill of the tank light.

Equipment

My DSLR is a Sony Alpha 200. I had my 18-70mm lens equipped for this.

Inspiration

This is mostly a snapshot for a memory of the trip

Editing

Most of the post-processing was simply cropping down to this contact between the two jellyfish. I did use a very minimal amount of sharpening.

In my camera bag

Currently my camera body, an 18-70 lens and a 70-200mm lens

Feedback

With something that has a certain element of luck to it like this, take more than one. Trying to compose before the shutter snaps is still important.
