Location
This photo was taken at Leura Cascades during a hike in the Blue Mountains to the west of Sydney, Australia.Time
I set off for a nice early morning hike but got here around 9:30 in the morning.Lighting
I got really lucky with the lighting. It was well and truly daylight but he sun had not yet appeared over the top of the mountain above the cascades until I got to this spot. Just as I was setting up the sun appeared and basked the scene in a lovely glow.Equipment
I shoot with a Sony A99 and also used a tripod for this shot.Inspiration
It is a really beautiful, peaceful, serene area up in the mountains, I love hiking up there to take photos.Editing
Being a RAW it needed a bit of processing, I generally play with the shadows and highlights but sometimes also the temperature and vibrance to get the colours to pop.In my camera bag
At the very least my Sony A99 and Tamron 28-75mm lens. Most of the time I also have my Tamron 70-300mm zoom lens and tripod which I've just upgraded but this was shot on my old, light, cheap and flimsy tripod.Feedback
Invest in a descent tripod, I'm frequently standing on rocks at the base of waterfalls and find the vibrations limit my shutter speed to 4 seconds at best with my old tripod. My new tripod allows as long a speed as I want allowing a much greater softening of running water. Also get down as low as you can, I find low angles to have more impact, power or maybe ooomph is the word I'm looking for. Waterproof hiking boots are also highly recommended!
