Location
I took this photo in Kampot, South Cambodia.Time
It was towards the end of the shoot around 4:30 pm, as I looked up at the clouds in the sky, I had an idea to shoot the couple holding hands with focus on their rings. I'm basically lying on the grass shooting looking up.Lighting
Mostly natural light but I did pop off the on camera flash to fill in the shadows.Equipment
I'm shooting a Nikon D7000 with a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 lens and an SB700 flash unit. I also used a white shoot through reflector for some of the outdoor shots in this series.Inspiration
I was looking for something unique and off the cuff. Shooting pre-wedding outdoors is challenging with composition and getting the lighting just right. I had no idea it would turn out as well as it did.Editing
I shoot mostly RAW hence there is post in Aperture and some Photoshop adjustments to bring out the brightness and contrast in the image. In my camera bag
Just my camera, lens, speed light and mostly a light modifier. I often carry a collapsible 60x60cm soft box for portraiture work. All of this fits in a small back pack which allows me to set up a mock studio almost anywhere without the need for lugging around heavy light stands and a bag full of accessories. The less you have with you, the more creative you tend to get in the absence of your gear.Feedback
Sometimes when you have a crazy idea for a shot and are not sure it will work, just give it a try. It's digital and you've nothing to lose. Often these are the shots that turn out better than the tried and tested ones you see everyone else shooting.
