Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at Quebec City, Canada at the 400th Anniv. of Quebec Air Show

Time

Taken on 6/13/2008 at 21:10

Lighting

The sun was setting.

Equipment

The photo was taken with a Nikon D300 camera body and Nikon 70-200mm VR f/2.8 lens. The setting used was ISO 400, 86mm at f/3.2 with a shutter at 1/40s.

Inspiration

The Blue Angels C-130, Fat Albert using JATO takeoff with the rockets against the setting sun makes for a unique photo. The slow shutter speed allows for full circle prop blur.

Editing

Process from Nikon NEF raw file in Photoshop with minimal processing.

In my camera bag

Currently my camera bag includes Nikon D4 and D810 camera bodies. I have the following Nikon lens: 12-24mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, 70-200mm VRII f/2.8, 200-400mm VR f/4, 105mm VR Micro f/2.8 and 80-400mm VRII f/4.5-5.6 plus Nikon TC 1.4 and 2.0.

Feedback

Unfortunately the Blue Angels no longer do JATO takeoffs with the C-130 so capturing this image again won't happen.
