Location
This was a picture taken in the Oldedalen Valley, Norway, en route to the foot of the Briksdal Glacier, which can be seen at the back of the photograph. The photo shows, to the right, the river which flows quite strongly away from the glacier.Time
The image was taken around 1pm in the afternoon.Lighting
Lighting was fairly easy on this, as the day was overcast, so I could just concentrate on the parts of the landscape I wanted to emphasise on, without having to worry about shadows.Equipment
Just me and my trusty Nikon D3100. I had my polariser on the front, which I use to reduce glare from the water.Inspiration
This was my only, to date, visit to the Norwegian Fjords. This place had been recommended to me by a work colleague as a place to visit. I had received some general instruction on how to take better pictures before I left England from a friend who I felt knew a thing or two about photography.Editing
No. I was fortunate to get it right in camera first time.In my camera bag
I have two lens, the 18 - 55mm and the 55-200 mm, which are both Nikkor lens, along with a polariser to reduce glare and bring out the colours of the subject. I also carry a remote shutter release with me, for times when long exposure is required (and I am using my tripod).Feedback
I am a self taught photographer, who has picked up things from my Dad and various individuals at camera clubs. My advice for those who are trying to capture a similar image is see what the auto function on your camera makes of the scene before you. On this occasion, it came up trumps. If you are lucky, Mother Nature will also give you a cloudy day, so you don't have to concern yourself with shadows.
