Behind The Lens

Location

This was one of the very first photos I took as a photographer while I was in eighth grade at Seqouia Park. I was still using a coolpix point and shoot camera!

Time

I remember this photo was just after dinner, when we could choose an 'evening activity.' I chose photography every day.

Lighting

I find that using matural light on natural objects tends to bring out the colors that you intend.

Equipment

A coolpix point and shoot camera. Remember, anyone can be a photographer!

Inspiration

The photo teacher we had on the trip told us to take pictures of ordinary things in extraordinary ways. I couldn't think of anything more ordinary than the hundreds of pinecones laying on the floor.

Editing

I didn't really know how to do anything at the time I took the picture.

In my camera bag

Now, I carry my t5i canon rebel, a tamron 16-300mm lens with a UV haze filter (to protect it), and a hood that fits.

Feedback

While natural light is good, it may not always be in the spot you want, especially if it's snowing. If you have a small lightweight subject like a pinecone, don't be afraid to move it around, or wait for a better day.
