Location
Albuquerque NM Botanical Gardens at the large metal dragonfly in water feature there.Time
It was close to 1pm it was one of the first exhibits as you come through the gate.Lighting
The light was coming from behind the dragonfly coming through the reeds and reflecting off of the water below.Equipment
Cannon 7d mark2 with no flash no tripod no filter lens was the tamron 70-300 was taken at about 200mmInspiration
First outing with my new cannon 7d mark2 upgrading from a 20d and was going to the botanical garden to test the range on camera and lens. The location offers a very wide variety of challenges due to buildings, reflective surfaces and different degrees of shading with extreme color contrast. The dragon fly allowed me to test out the color contrast of the camera.Editing
DXO was used ,allowed for dynamic light range adjustment with a fine tuning of brights, mids and blacks. Followed by a second finer adjustment of brights ,mids and blacks to help bring our more of the detail and texture. In my camera bag
the 7d mark2 , tamron70-300, a cannon 18-85,cannon 40 fixed , older cannon shoe mount flash, 2 batteries, misc filters, nat density ,polarizationFeedback
Be able to take your time at the location, wait for a clear shot if there are people walking around. If you cant use a tripod see if you can find a solid object to brace yourself on to help minimize shaking. If possible try for a couple different angles to see which on works best and use the cameras manual settings to control the variables of the picture and take pictures at different setting to see which one you like the best.
