Location
This photo was taken in the Butterfly house at the New Forest Wildlife Park UK.Time
Taken at mid day as the sun was at its best and shining through the Perspex roofing.Lighting
I noticed a stream of light coming through a small gap in the Perspex and so placed a small piece of an Orange under the light.Equipment
Whilst I would usually use my Canon camera I actually used a Fuji Exr 30 in P Mode with a Raynox macro attachment added for this shot. I don't have the luxury of a full Macro lens as yet.. Kneeling close to the floor I steadied myself against a side post in order to avoid camera shake.Inspiration
The Butterflies are just beautiful close up, each with their own personalities and character. Be it in a Butterfly house or free in the wild, they are always worth following in the hope of getting that real close up shot.Editing
Very little post processing with this shot, some cropping and a little saturation & Clarity but otherwise pretty much from the camera. In my camera bag
I generally carry a variety of equipment, nothing luxurious really.. Canon 700D, Fuji HS 50 with its 700mm zoom which I often double up with another Raynox adapter, a 2 times convertor which really helps with those wildlife shots. Other pieces would be both the 18- 55 kit lens, 55-250mm lens and also a Canon 50mm 1.4 lens for portrait shots...Wireless switch for the Canon, Wired switch for the Fuji. Light weight tripod. Cokin Filter set with a few additional colours of choice... Lots of lens wipes. Spare batteries. Two small flash lights which I sometimes use under a fixed subject.Feedback
I think the main thing is to be prepared for the unexpected at all times, carry the gear for all circumstances that may arise. Learn about composition and how to present your images to be shown. You will be surprised just how much that composition adds to the overall image. Take a little bird seed with you, may be a little fruit or treats to entice things your way. Most of all be patient and wait for nature to come to you. Best Wishes & Happy Snapping Col
