Location
On a spur of the minute coastal night shoot. I shot this from the comfort of my sleeping bag. I never did sleep and the morning after, a fellow photographer and friend drove me all around his home town to various spots so I could shoot more. I think I wasted about 200 frames. All in all it was good times.Time
Early hours about two or three AM.Lighting
Its hit and miss but its dawn light. It was quite a good morning as I remember. Not all mornings are beautiful but when they are the light can be spectacular. The sun wasn't past the horizon yet.Equipment
Pentax k10D with a Rikenon 50mm lens F1.8, judging by this it was set at F1.8. No tripod, that was holding my bivvy up.Inspiration
Adrenalin. I was on a roll, some of my best frames came from this trip. The main draw for my eye was the dew and the fact that that tall grass seed or whatever it is was echoed by the lamp posts that are in the distanceEditing
I did have to boost the exposure by about a stop, it was a little too dark on my first test print. I probably applied a little sharpening as well. In most cases I only use the basics. I check the exposure and light temperatures, I align horizons and crop and I sharpen and export.In my camera bag

For really good light you have got to get up early or chase the sunsets or fake it. That doesn't mean you can't take really good pictures at other times of the day or in no light situations. Its all about learning how to manage the light. For a shot like this get a fast lens and open it as wide as it goes, have fun with it but don't shoot everything like this. Its a great technique but that is all it is.
