Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Esposende, Portugal.

Time

The photo was taken during sunset. I was the last one i took that day.

Lighting

The most important thing that i wanted do catch was some of the warm light reflecting in the pebbles. Everything went well and i had my wish fullfilled.

Equipment

I used a nikon d3200 and nothing else. I didn't had my tripod with me so i arranged some pebbles to support the camera and used the remote to control the shutter.

Inspiration

What inspired me was the simple fact that the entire beach is covered with pebbles. I seemed to me like it would work really well with a sunset photo of the wet pebbles reflecting the warm light.

Editing

I corrected white balance, tweaked contrast, saturation and added some sharpening and some more minor contrast tweaks to the pebbles in order to make them stand out a bit more.

In my camera bag

I always carry my nikon d3200, the 18-55mm kit lens, the 35mm f/1.8, a polarizer, 2 or 3 neutral density filters, andthe remote control for the camera.

Feedback

The first advice is to try to be on the location with plenty of time to spare and to prepare the photo. For this one i didn't had my tripod with me but arriving early gave me enough time to prepare a stable setup to keep the camera still. Keep track of the weather conditions so you don't get bad news when you get the location you want to shoot. As for the more technical aspects the best advice is go out and try every setting you can. You will find the one that best suits your needs very quickly.
