Location
Each of the ladies in the photo were shot individually in the studio, and the background was shot on the roof of the Historic Grand Ballroom in Salem, Oregon.Time
Everything was shot in the afternoonLighting
I used a standard 3 light setup...key light, and 2 rim lightsEquipment
I believe this was shot with the a sony a77, using cybersync triggers and Alien Bees and White Lightning strobes. Main light modifier is a 36" silver reflective umbrella.Inspiration
This was done as a promo shot for Eden's Apple Salon, and the ladies are all actual staff members at the salon, not models.Editing
Each lady was extracted from the white backdrop and overlayed on the rooftop background image. The hairspray and flame was created in photoshop, as we're the "Edward Scissor Hands"In my camera bag
I shoot Sony cameras exclusively, and a collection of Minolta, Sigma and Tamron lenses.Feedback
Pay attention to shadows, highlights and perspective. I use a lot of dodging and burning to create the illustrated look featured here, and YouTube is your friend for tutorials on mastering the techniques.
