Inside the Americas Cup Compound during the Americas Cup World Series in San Diego, California during November 2011. For the 2 years leading up to the Americas Cup in 2013, Countries competed in the AC45 Boat, a 45 foot long Catamaran weighing only about 3,000 pounds and using a winged sail. These incredible boats have the ability to sail at 3x the actual wind speed. In the Summer of 2013, the qualifying teams from the World Series became eligible to compete in the Louis Vuitton Challenger Series and then will face Oracle in the Americas Cup. The Louis Vuitton Cup and Americas Cup in the summer of 2013 will be raced in a much larger version, the AC72.
