Location
This was taken at Killington Reservoir, nestled in between the Lake District & the North Pennines AONB, UKTime
I had spotted this vista in the early evening and decided to set an early alarm call for the following morning. I was hoping for a sunrise over this area. This was taken around 8am, just before the sun came up. I had been outside since around 7.15, snapping all across the reservoir as the the daylight slowly rose.Lighting
I think I got super lucky here. This was taken just before New Year, so the temperature was incredibly low and created a hard frost due to the clear night before. I was facing the direction of the sunrise, so the daylight was advancing towards me from this location.Equipment
At this particular time, I only had my nice & simple canon 1200D & a standard canon 70-300 f4 - f5.6 lens. No tripod as I hadn't brought it with me for this trip.Inspiration
I had picked the services as a cheap overnight stay on my journey up to Glasgow for my friends wedding. Once arriving I had noticed the amazing scenery from the cafe section and decided that if the morning was clear, I would venture outside and try to capture some of the amazing vista as the daylight rose.Editing
This was taken as a jpeg image, before I had learnt how to process (or why I would even want to use) a RAW file. a small amount of fill light was adjusted to compensate for any misjudgement in camera set up (I was quite a novice to the use of a DSLR when I took this), but the shot is pretty much straight from the camera. In my camera bag
I've upgraded a little now to a Canon 80d. Whilst I don't much like the weight of carrying, I do like to ensure I have both my Sigma 17-55 F2.8 & my Canon 70-200 f2.8 lenses on me. In addition, I now add to this a 2x teleconverter to see if I can capture some further distance shots. If I'm specifically off out on the hunt for some very stable shooting, I drag out the Manfrotto tripod for fantastic stability.Feedback
I would say just don't try to hard to capture the perfect shot. It can get frustrating performing numerous attempts at something and always finding something to critique. Sometimes, things like this shot are just 'there'...just point...and shoot.
