Beautiful shot--love the color. If you have any shots of Smoky Mountains, check out my project "Smoky Mountains" which I just created and add some photos.
Thanks, Janice

Used to live in Knoxville but did not know about this. Was not involved with photography then. Great Image, I look forward to visiting this spot!

Your photo is wonderful. Composition, exposure, just perfect. I have a personal project to photograph old Grist Mills. I'll be going to Babcock ST. Pk. the last week of May. How far is the Rice Grist Mill from the one in Babcock St. Pk.?

Location
This old Rice Grist Mill is in Andersonville, TN in Norris Dam State Park. It is a working mill and has a thrashing barn adjacent to it.Time
It is a very picturesque mill, so I planned to be there for a sunrise image in late October, 2011.Lighting
However, when I arrived very early in the pre-dawn hours, the entire area was encased in a dense fog, as it is close to the lake formed by the Norris Dam. I waited a couple of hours until mid morning for enough of the fog to burn off so that I could actually see the mill! The lifting fog enabled the subdued lighting for the image .Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5D Mk II and the lens was Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM. (Since this taken in 2011, I have since upgraded to a Canon 5D Mk III.) I have a Gitzo tripod that is carbon fiber so that I can take it on hikes and a Really Right Stuff ballhead.Inspiration
I had been to this mill numerous times in the middle of the day because it is so photogenic, but wanted to see it in a different light so arrived in the predawn hours.Editing
This is a 3 photo HDR image, using Photomatix Pro software, as well as Photoshop. In my camera bag
For landscapes, I use either the Canon 5D Mk III with the Canon L series 24-105 lens, or the Canon wide angle 16-35mm lens. I still use the same Gitzo carbon tripod and Really Right Stuff ballhead. Polarizers and remote cable release are always handy. ( I currently also have a mirrorless Olympus camera and a point and shoot Sony camera for longer hikes or trips where I just NEED to have a camera with me just in case! Which happened yesterday when I ran across a grizzly bear on a hike, and I did manage to get a shot while slowly backing up!)Feedback
Be adaptable and patient! Also be aware that early hour travel may be necessary for the shot you want to create. The plan was for a sunrise shot, but that was impossible due to the pea-soup fog. After a couple of hours, the subdued lighting created from the slowly lifting fog made this image possible. Furthermore, post-processing is essential to achieve a polished and professional result.
