Behind The Lens

Location

This is the Erg Chebbi section of the Sahara Desert in Morocco.

Time

The sun had just risen, so early morning

Lighting

Early or late sun create long shadows, which are great for contrast within the sand dunes. The early morning sun really brought out the golden colours of the dunes.

Equipment

Canon 6D with a 17-40mm lens and a polarising filter

Inspiration

I had spent most of the morning shooting pristine dunes with amazing shadows. When I saw my own tracks leading up the dunes I thought it gives a great sense of the vastness of the desert. I thought of all the films of people lost in the dunes. The leading line of the tracks into the sun worked perfectly.

Editing

Basic photoshop touch up to breath some life into it. Didn’t need much.

In my camera bag

Camera, 17-40 and 24-105 lenses, tripod, filters

Feedback

Don’t get stuck on one idea when shooting landscape, look for new composition and interesting lines and don’t forget to turn around and look back, sometimes incredible scenes unfold behind your camera.
