Great capture! It is absolutely beautiful. The detail of the bird is such that my first thought was that it was an eagle. Nice job. voted

Yes it is an Eagle wedge tail, very large bird KathScan . Thankyou for voting This is one image and was shot with my humble Canon Powershot. It remains my alltime favorite capture

Location
This image was captured around the corner from where I live near Smythesdale Victoria in a paddock bordered by bush areas.Time
Around 6-7 pm at the rise of the SupermoonLighting
The Supermoon rise was due at around the same time as the end of sunset last light, which allowed me to see and focus more effectively on the eagle . The moon rise provided its own unique light and after several frames it finally moved behind the eagle, within a few more frames it had moved above.Equipment
Canon Powershot SX40HS, Tripod, self timer to minimize shake . Fingers , and all things crossed that the eagle did not fly off...Inspiration
There are two of these Large Wedge tailed eagles that frequent the area, I have taken many photos of them, they often come into the same tree as the sun falls.. there wasnt alot of time to plan as I was going out that evening. My husband arrived home and said he had seen them in the big tree..one look at the time and a quick check of the moon times sent me scurrying around the corner in my car, I set up the tripod with about half an hour til moon rise and waited..I was careful to not move around too much as he would have taken flight..I then played with settings and took over 100 images that evening, keen to get a few images in case he did fly !.. I was so excited that I managed what I consider to be my dream shot..my other favorite image captured that night is also in my gallery on Viewbug.Editing
My camera is a bridge camera which does not shoot RAW images, so the only post editing is through a free down loadable program PICASA, which I use to crop and watermark, In this image the only thing needed was a slight increase in boost to accentuate the sky , I rarely use anything except the shadow and light or boost around 1/4 of indicator level available on this programIn my camera bag
I always carry a spare battery, a rubberband to tie my camera neck strap to stop it flapping, a tripod and a lens cloth..oh and a small torch .Feedback
Eagles are very clever and they sense movement..I have been taking photos of them for a few years now, and they will take flight if you are too close, if they feel safe that you arent coming any closer they will just watch and assess. A great Zoom to give them the comfort zone, the bigger the zoom then even in day time will require a tripod to avoid shake. The moon is tricky and settings to capture detail in the moon means that a sillouette was my only option, with my camera and its limited settings . The supermoon or indeed any moonrise that is within the hour of sunset or last light gives you a better chance of being able to use the natural light to do this.. I am an amateur self taught photographer, who at this point in time is still waiting for my first DSLR camera..a hard choice as I am wanting to replicate the huge zoom I have and the flexibility the canon powershot gives me but increase my control with settings iso and aperture in particular and longer shutter speeds.. when I do find the ideal DSLR system and lens for me..I will still find it hard to part with this trusty friend, which has taught me so much.
