Location
I took this photo while staying at a friend's house during a 3 day snow storm in Eastern North Carolina. We walked down to her grandparents house and that is where I found her mother's red bike from childhood.Time
This photo was taken around four in the afternoon. It had been a day full of crock pot soup and being pulled around on a tarp in the snow by a tractor and having to wipe the mascara off my cheeks from laughing so much I cried. My friend and I decided to explore the other half of the property she lives on and that's when I found the bike, just as the sun was sinking into the woods behind her house.Lighting
My favorite lighting is right as the sun is starting to set. That's when it turns golden and liquifies.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D3100, using a f/4.8 55-200mm lens. Handheld, no flash.Inspiration
When you're dealing with snow, the color scheme is basically white and grey. All day I had searching for inspiration but other than some green pine needles, hadn't found any. I knew when I saw the golden sunlight combined with the rusty redness of this bike that it was what I had been searching for.Editing
The white balance had killed some of the sunset, so I adjusted the white balance to give the photo a warmer tone and I then adjusted the contrast to bring out more of the gold and red color. I did not have to crop this image but did have to straighten it slightly. In my camera bag
I always have my Nikon D3100 as it is the only body I own thus far. Since I am just starting out, I don't really have anything interesting in my bag. I always keep my 18-55mm lens with me as well as my 55-200mm. My lensbaby composer is the apple of my eye and is always by my side as well. Other than lenses, I keep a standard tripod, a few filters (macro and lighting), and cleaning essentials.Feedback
Don't think too much about a shot. Just let it happen. My best photos come from when I see something interesting and just start looking through my viewfinder. My advice is don't plan it out too much, just start shooting and let it happen.
