Very nice capture! IMHO though I would've crop out the dark negative space on the right edge completely (but keep the purple door frame area). To me that would've been a stronger image, since the main theme is 'Colors' & dark empty space doesnt add to that.

Location
This photo was taken in South Africa, in a town called Parys. The door was stowed among other old treasures next to the main street under a deck.Time
This photo was taken at 12:57 in the afternoon at the beginning of autumn. It wasn't in direct sunlight, so I didn't have a problem with over-exposure.Lighting
The door was lit well by natural light, but still under a deck/roof. So the light was softened nicely, on top of it not being an overly bright day. I was lucky and didn't have to get creative about lighting.Equipment
This was shot with a Sony Alpha 230, with a kit lens. I didn't use any other equipment. (I was pretty new to photography and didn't own anything else!)Inspiration
The door itself inspired me, specifically the colours and textures! I was visiting this town and it had a lot of great things to photograph, but this door was definitely one of the best. I took several photos of it to get interesting angles.Editing
Yes, but slight. I upped the saturation and contrast a touch in Photoshop. In my camera bag
When I took this photo I only had my Sony Alpha 230 and the kit lens, nothing else. Now I carry a Canon 60D with 50mm and 70-300 mm lens and sometimes a tripod.Feedback
Really I got this picture as I went out specifically to explore and find interesting things to photograph. I find whenever I put time aside to do this I always find things worth shooting. It's just about making the time and having your eyes open and being able to see what would make an interesting photo. Play around with angles, light and distance and you're bound to get a worthwhile shot in a day.
