Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo about 10 miles east of Yosemite just off highway 120 in California, USA.

Time

I got up early to get out and take some photos of the fall colors. I walked about a half mile to the river and looked for a good shot that included the water and the mountains. This was taken about 8:30 in the morning.

Lighting

I wanted to get the morning light on the mountains but I was a little late. It still turned out ok, though.

Equipment

I use a Nikon D700 with a 28-300mm lens. THis is the lens I usually have on my camera. I didn't do anything special, just stood next to the water and snapped a few pics. My lens wasn't wide enough to capture the whole scene so I shot some images to stitch into a panorama later.

Inspiration

I love the fall colors and I thought the mountains would make a good backdrop.

Editing

For post processing, I sharpened a little and increased the saturation.

In my camera bag

Aside from my camera and 28-300mm lens, I always carry a 10mm fisheye, a 18-35 wide angle zoom and a 14mm micro lens along with assorted filters.

Feedback

Try to get out during the golden hour. That's al I have to say about that. Pictures at high noon are never good.
