Nice photo, it captures the attention with those specific colours and in my opinion the imagination of the viewer.

Behind The Lens

Location

Taken in a back street in Hoi An Vietnam

Time

around midday

Lighting

Although middle of the day the cloud cover from the tropical storm the night before kept the light manageable

Equipment

I used my favourite camera at the time a Canon 7D on manual with a 24-105mm lens hand held. No other equipment used.

Inspiration

I was having lunch in a little corner restaurant at the window seat with my husband watching life go by when a local beckoned me outside. There were rats popping their heads out of crevices in the pavements as the water level was so high due to the flooding caused by the tropical storm that came through the night before. As soon as I saw this bike leaning up against the wall I knew it was going to be a good one.

Editing

I shoot in RAW and do all of my basic editing in Lightroom. This image I then took into Silver Efex and played around until I like the look.

In my camera bag

At the time I took this image I would usually have the Canon 7D, Canon 24-105mm and Sigma 10-20mm lenses. I now shoot with a Canon 5D MKIII which is an awesome camera and have extended my kit to include a Canon 50mm 1.4 prime and a Canon 300mm f2.8 which are both fab lenses.

Feedback

I think what adds to this image was the flood water still on the street adding interest and the bike itself. Vietnam is full of push bikes but this one was different, I guess the modern wheels?
