Location
This photo was taken on a stretch on highway in Austin with an unusual name(s)Time
Time of day was,if I recall probably around 8 or 9pm CST. Just dark enough that there was no issue of over bearing sunlight, and still early enough that there was plenty of traffic on the road still.Lighting
Not much special about the lighting other than I tried to utilize the Gigantic highway lighting as best I could, and still capture the tail lights without blowing out the entire image.Equipment
This image if I recall was my Canon T3i with a 70-200mm lens, just the standard issue that comes with the upgraded T3i Kit. No flash, and on a tripod for stability during the length of exposure.Inspiration
Mainly for those of us old enough we know this stretch as BenWhite Blvd. from back when it was just a 2 lane highway, but it is also known as Highway 71,and highway 290. I took this picture from atop the south austin hospital, because I wasted to take a kind of "time warp" effect showing how much this area just in the frame alone has changed from when I was much younger. Back then, the hospital wasnt even here, it sits on the top of a hill that back in the day used to be a big water slide park that utilised the natural slope of the terrain. The moving truck in the upper right corner just above right of the Manchanca sign, that area used to be like a main "strip mall" or what could be called on back then. There was a gas station that sat on that same site, which was probably the biggest newest thing in the area at the time. If you keep going to the left of that same area out of frame, There was an old mom and pop grocery store/ deli called Mrs. Lawrences. The family that owned it literally lived on a small plot of land that was located just behind the store. If you draw a line straight across the frame from that area on the right to the left side of the frame, That's where our longest lived $1 movie theater was located, back then because the highway was not so much a highway, we could literally walk across to the theater. So again, I wanted to capture a look back in time so to speak.Editing
No post processing, just a long exposure. In my camera bag
Back then I normally had my T3i, also a canon sx40HS and an extra battery for both.Feedback
Don't be afraid to try anything, just because you don't have traditional training, or use traditional methods, doesn't mean you can't create art.
