Location
This image was taken in Round Rock Texas at an abandoned Lime Kiln I had driven by several time over a couple of months time,it kept piquing my interest until one day I just decided to drive down this old abandoned road to see what was really hiding back behind the hills.Time
I took the photo late afternoon one day, after I had packed up my two young boys and then making the half hour drive to the location, I let them run around and explore while I set up to shoot, and then off to the races.Lighting
There is really nothing special about the lighting for the image, I tend to like using any available natural lighting when I go out hunting for locations to shoot.Obviously I need enough daylight for a good daytime image.Equipment
This particular day I was shooting with my Canon T3i and a 300mm lens, no flash, no filter, no tripodInspiration
The only inspiration I had for taking this image was the fact that I like the location, and that getting people, especially kids motivated to just get out and explore their surroundings more is very difficult these days, You never know what you will find.Editing
Post processing for this image was pretty straight forward and simple, I just took 3 bracketed images, stacked them and added a little tone mapping to give the very rich image look.In my camera bag
Normally I would keep my T3i body, a 50mm,300mm lens 2 extra batteries and a flash, that's normally, currently I do not keep a bag at all since it was stolen on day I was out looking at a new location to shoot, I came back to where I had set my things thinking I was ok,and pretty much alone, but you can never be too careful I guess.Feedback
If you are looking to capture a similar image, the best advice i can give is to always pay attention to your surroundings. Even if you are just on your way to a corner store, look around, take it all in, you never know what you will discover.
