Location
I took this photo at the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond Virginia. It is located in the Jefferson Davis Circle.Time
This was taken in the afternoon.Lighting
The lighting at this point was very overcast, a thunderstorm came rolling through right after I finished taking the image, the sun was behind clouds and would have been behind the trees as well.Equipment
I shot this with a Nikon D50 at an aperture of f/5.6 and a shutter speed of 10/1250, no flash or tripod was used I cannot remember what lens I was using at the time.Inspiration
I love taking photos of statues and monuments in older cemeteries, the way the marble and stone ages and the intricacies of the designs catch my eye. I enjoy history and I am always curiosity as to the people that these amazing monuments were made to honor. Each one tells a story of a person that once lived and laughed and loved as we do now, and I imagine what their lives might have been like.Editing
I converted the image to black and white and adjusted the background to focus on the statue in photoshop. In my camera bag
My Sony A77 with my 4.5-5.6/55-300 and my 2.8/16-50 lenses, a light reflector and my tripod.Feedback
It is all about finding an interesting subject and taking shots from different angles, in this image specifically I really brought out the best of it by converting it to black and white. The black and white makes the details stand out and highlights the character of the stone. I really bumped up the contrast in this image to make the details of the stone shine, this wouldn't be flattering on a person, but it really builds the depth of this image.
