I took this photo in my home in La Paz, Bolivia. I am lucky enough to have this plant in the garden that attract this gorgeous hummingbird. In order to be close to the bird, I perched in my son's bedroom window and waited patiently for him to come.Time
It was a cloudy but luminous morningLighting
I needed a fast speed to capture the hummingbird in a clear way, being outdoors and not having additional lighting sources I was forced to use a high ISO, I choose f8 to have some more DOFEquipment
I used my Nikon D7000 with my Nikkor 28-300 VR lens All handheld perched in a window ;-)Inspiration
Having this birds visiting my garden in a regular basis it was an absolute waste not to photograph them. After several failures (chasing the birds as they came) I learned that you have to have patience for nature photography: you have to wait for them.Editing
Some cropping and light LR adjustments were madeIn my camera bag
I like to have at hand everything I might need. In my bag (Domke F3-x) you can find: Nikon D7000 with grip, Nikkor 28-300mm, Nikkor 50mm, Sigma 10-20mm, Nikon SB 910, rocket blower, sensor cleaning stick, flash extender, Nikon ML3 remote, intervalometer, usb cables, extra memory cards, filters: variable ND, CPL, Graduated ND, graduated filter adapter, batteries, Nikon battery charger and headband flashlightFeedback
Have patience and keep trying, you don't need to have an expensive luminous super zoom to capture birds. Learn the bird's habits. Choose an adequate spot and wait patiently with the camera in place ready to shoot. the birds will get used to your presence and start to come, the last thing you want to do is scare them when moving your camera from a resting to a shoot position
