Behind The Lens
Location
I was in a rowing class at the Thompson Boat House in Washington learning to scull. I took this photograph from the dock. The crew were members of my rowing class.Time
This photo was taken in the early evening at about 5:30 P.M. as the sun was reflected on the Potomac.Lighting
It was a beautiful June evening, warm and the time of day was perfect for the sun reflecting on the water.Equipment
I used a canon EOS rebel with a 10 by 22 lens. No flash, tripod or any other equipment was used for this photo.Inspiration
I found that it was a majestic sight to a group of people rowing in the evening sunlight. The peace and serenity of this inspired me to take this photo. I wanted to capture the beauty of the rowers and the gorgeous combination of the sun and the water.Editing
No post processing was done at all for this photo. In my camera bag
At the time I took this photo, I had a 50 MM, a 10 by 22 and a 75 by 150 zoom for my EOS rebel. I have since upgraded to a Canon D70 and a 100 by 400 zoom lens. I now carry a monopod as well.Feedback
Anytime you can capture something within the natural environment, that is a plus in photography. Dawn and dusk are ideal times to take photographs as the light is conducive to taking great photos. Working the scene and taking many shots from different angles gives one more opportunity to get that perfect shot as well. Including things such as trees, water, people, and other things of interest always makes a photo more interesting to look at as well. Most of all, having a passion for photography is the most important element to getting great photos.
