Location
This photo was taken in rural Kentucky, at friends farm.Time
It was late afternoon. We wanted to have the sun low in the sky to produce dramatic lighting.Lighting
Evening sun gives dramatic side lighting that is warm and gives nice shadows that compliment the action of the riders.Equipment
A Canon T3I was used with a canon 50-250 lens.Inspiration
I've been working for almost a year to digitally paint images, mostly still images like animals sitting or standing and people posing. I thought it was time to paint some action shots. A friend has daughters who barrel race their horses and he offered to set up a practice session for me to photograph. I love being around horses so it was great fun to be there and I was happy with a number of the images. I selected one image of each daughter and painted them. The family was happy because I gave them a copy of each.Editing
Well the painting process is definitely post production. In my camera bag
A Nikon 7100 with an assortment of at least three lenses and LOTS of gadgets.Feedback
Stay at a safe distance. Use a long lens. Take lots of pictures and have fun.
