Behind The Lens
Location
There is a outside studio that I built next to my house on the same level as my kitchen ground floor. It's floor is about 1 meter from the ground . In this studio I create compositions which are round 1 meter high. Animals can come and will be on the level of my window so we can have direct eye contact. My house is in the middle of Sweden.Time
It was taken in the beginning of december no snow but ice in that time. Squirrels here have no fast time and same day that they come. And there have not been many sunny days. In this case I was lucky to be there on this moment.Lighting
The first years that I started photographing animals it was always without flash. I did not know how to use it and thought about red eyes and to strong direct light. Many month of the year I could not take photos because my studio has always backlight and my camera gifes to much grain after 640 iso. When I started to use flash I was possible to make these kind of photos.Equipment
Nikon d7100 with a 150-500 mm Sigma I did use. There are different lights and some light I made my self. Nexto that I have a vanguard tripod and a 560 III younguo flash and a about 1 meter reflector.Inspiration
There was this big hole I digged and used it for fires and grilling under the ground. The problem was with rain the hole became a swimming pool. Great because when it started to freeze It had ice for this photo. Would not have thought to capture this otherwise.Editing
In this case there was nothing to do. The lights where the way I wanted.In my camera bag

My love for nature and animals is expressed in this photo. It does not have to take a long time to create that contact with a animal. They need to trust me and I do not have to sit quite. Sometimes I make sounds so they get a little nervous and move to a better position. Sometimes I use a infra red moving signal. When a animal comes a ring goes of in my house. Often after having eaten squirrels come to me in my window and get a nut as a present and payment. Much about the shots is where to put food. Need to learn the behaviours of the animal
