Location
This was taken at a high school rodeo in rural Nevada.Time
This was evening and the light was fading fast.Lighting
I had to bump up the ISO much higher than I like because it was getting dark.Equipment
A Nikon D7100 on a monopod with a Nikon 80-400 lens.Inspiration
I usually shoot other events at the rodeos, but my events were over and I was watching the action, but was worried because it was getting dark.Editing
I probably cropped the photo a little bit and may have tried to lighten some of the shadows. In my camera bag
For rodeos I have 2 camera bodies, the 80-400 lens and one other shorter lens.Feedback
I think good rodeo shots are all about location - get to where you think you need to be before the action starts. Good rodeo pictures usually result by being ready for the dramatic moment, and being a little lucky. I have the unique opportunity of photographing some of the best athletes in the state of Nevada; both human and equine!
