This photo was taken in the Coe Mansion on Long Island.Time
It was the in the afternoon that I was visiting the mansion with my daughter. I was there to take photos of a fashion accessories on exhibit from the 1920's. I was surprised to find beautifully painted murals in the upstairs bedroom. I felt it was the perfect backdrop to do a portrait.Lighting
I used only the light entering the room from western windows.Equipment
I love using my Nikon S6000 point and shoot. I originally purchased it because it can take macros as close as 1 inch. I like it because I can focus on the composition and leave the rest to the cameraInspiration
My daughter just happened to have a sleeveless dress on and when I saw the fireplace mantel I immediately asked her to rest her arm on it. It just seemed like the natural thing to do. She never went to get her High School graduation photos so I felt this was an opportunity to record an image of her that would represent this time in her life.Editing
I did have to do some color correction in Adobe Photoshop. I also ran a filter by Dr. Brown to give it a painterly feel.In my camera bag
My point and shoot and a notebook. I do wish I had a tripod. It's on my list for the future.Feedback
Just slow down and observe. Shoot what catches your eye. If something strikes a chord with you it probably would make a good shot. It's all about shooting in response to your inner feelings. Follow your instincts.
