Location
This photograph was taken in Bernwood Forest, Buckinghamshire, in December 2014.Time
I aimed to be there by the end of the afternoon hoping to catch the sun rays playing in the trees and highlighting the autumnal leaves. It is a beautiful area and I wasn't disappointed because I managed to catch many elements of that day including this particular photograph, probably my favourite. I was very concerned though that I may be too full on towards the light and had to stop down. To me this represents what I love the most about the season, the golden glory of dying leaves.Lighting
I decided to stop down and played with the white balance. I took 3 exposures in all.Equipment
Canon EOS 600D - no tripod, no flash.Inspiration
I just wanted to capture the autumn light and the golden leaves to the best of my abilityEditing
There was very little processing from RAW to jpeg but I did have to use the darkening tool to soften up a bit of glareIn my camera bag
I have a zoom lens 18-130 mm but also a 50mm lens. I have some filters with me but on this occasion I only used the B&W UV filter which I keep on my lens most of the time.Feedback
I'm an amateur photographer. I would rather paint if I could but I cannot even draw. All I would say is ensure you look at the light first and ensure you are in the area of interest either first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon, bearing in mind that in the winter the light will disappear quite early in the UK. Also do not look at the light directly but try and search for its illumination point on the object of interest and then walk around looking through your viewfinder to decide on your shooting point. The good thing about digital is that you can take several pictures and look at them on your LCD to be satisfied you've tried your best.
