Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture near my hometown, Blacksburg VA, in what's called Ellot Valley.

Time

This photo was taken in the evening (around 5pm) when there was spotty cloud cover so I could get some contrast between the shaded woods and sunlit woods.

Lighting

This is shot with natural sun lighting. The trees were nicely lit up in spots by the sun coming through the clouds.

Equipment

I used a 300mm lens and took this shot at full zoom. I did not have a tripod with me at the time so I rested my camera on a fence to stabilize it.

Inspiration

I love simple and minimal photography that still has a lot of detail.

Editing

I used lightroom to enhance the contrast and colors a bit, but the final product is pretty close to the original image.

In my camera bag

At the time of taking this photo, I had my camera (canon t3) and a lens. That's it. Now. I have a canon t5i and carry a few lenses and a tripod (so I don't have to use a fence again).

Feedback

I think that if others wanted to capture somethingike this I'd tell them to look around when they are driving in the country. I saw this scene and had to stop on the site if the road. Think about contrast and placement of objects that draw the eye (in this case the white house).
