Location
I took this photo under the George Washington Bridge in New Jersey.Time
It was around noon so the sun was high in the sky which cast a shadow underneath the bridge. It also made for some nice soft shadows in the clouds.Lighting
The lighting was tricky to expose under the bridge and the sky so this is actually a composite of the two exposures.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D3000 with an 18-55mm kit lens on a Vanguard tripod.Inspiration
I was looking to complete a depth of field assignment for school and, though I ultimately chose a different image, I couldn't resist the perfect composition that Mother Nature put before me.Editing
I had to composite two exposures (under the bridge and the sky) in Photoshop CS5 as well as add a black and white adjustment layer and some slight dodging and burning in the clouds, water, and bridge. In my camera bag
Depending on the project, I usually have two camera bodies in my bag, a Nikon D3000 and Nikon D800 with 4 lenses, Nikon 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G, Nikon 35mm 1:1.8G, Sigma 28-300mm 1:3.5-6.3D, and a Tamron 200-400mm 1:5.6LD. I also have a Vanguard tripod and a Bower SFD35 flash.Feedback
I don't shoot landscapes often but the phrase to live by is "hurry up and wait". If you want to shoot clouds a certain way or catch the perfect colors in a sunset, you have to hurry your location and wait for the moment. I was set up for 20 minutes before the clouds lined up and about a minute after this, the clouds had moved away. It can be really rewarding to capture the perfect landscape but there is nothing wrong with bumping it up in post production.
