The Constance of Improvement

A complete conundrum for the mind, how is it that we do better than our previous best? For me this is a problem that the mind can easily get snagged on. For the creative, trapped as well as snagged, for the mind isn't equipped with the tools to come up with something original and unique. The mind is a mechanical machine which takes pieces of data, accumulated in the past tense, and then tries to blend them in with the present moment for a sense of meaning... But if we're stuck filling our minds, comparing the past to our present, how ever may we open up to the ever present intuition in us all?

I personally aim to raise the bar on myself with each time I create something new, but this can be a very arduous process - After creating things which inspire myself even further, I find it hard to reconcile the grey moments in between. There's the phase of fear, fear that I can't do better and that the threshold of awesomeness has been reached. After that comes being happy with what is, not looking, or stressing thought as to where I should place my next footsteps in the constant search for something better. After this comes the re-realisation that our past never defines us, it simply brought us to where we are now. The wake behind a moving ship, is as much a part of the vessel as the waves hitting it from the front. And then so, calmness returns. The space for intuition has opened up again, and the magic comes streaming back into our lives like it had never left us.

Your best is not behind you, nor is it in front of you. It is always abiding within the ever present now. We'd all do well to stay in the present, knowing that right now, we are living as the best version of ourselves and always will be.
