Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my farm in Ohio - A friend of mine brought her Granddaughter over for a secret photo shoot so her daughter would be surprised by the pictures. I am a self taught photographer and this was the fastest moving child I had ever seen. We have horses , dog and chickens here so her attention surely wasn't on a photographer. She was throwing snack goldfish to the dogs and then she wanted us to throw them to her too ! Was a fun giggly afternoon.

Time

This was shot midday when the sun was bright.

Lighting

This was shot in the middle of the day because that was the only time they had to sneak out for the secret pictures. We had a ton of sun with intermittent cloud cover so the lighting was changing as fast as the little girl was running.

Equipment

For this I used a Canon Rebel T3i No tripod hand held.

Inspiration

The inspiration for this photo was the snacks were the only thing she was interested at the time so we just started tossing them up in the air and told her to try and catch them.

Editing

The only post editing done on this was just a bit of a slide on the contrast button, With all of the great backgrounds here on the farm and striking beautiful Red hair the photo made itself.

In my camera bag

My go to camera is a Canon Rebel T3i with the 75-300 lens I also have the 18-55 lens and a close up 50 mm lens. I usually take my Nikon D5200 with the 55-200 lens for a back up. We only shoot outside in a nature background so there is no need for a flash in my bag.

Feedback

I am a beginner and self taught my advice on something like this, set your camera to shoot as fast as it can and click away, It was really fun looking at them afterwards and seeing the evolution of the movements that were stopped in a moment.
