Great composition here with just the bottle in all the party lights. I like the brightness and colors. This gives you the feel of a good time if you drink the Smirnoff. Good job.

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at home using my computer desk, some kitchen foil and a keyring light.I only had my d5200 camera a few days and was keen to take some pictures. the bottle was from an xmas gift and the initial reason for playing around with the photo was just to use the lens and camera. the lens was a 50mm 1.8 ais manual focus.

Time

afternoon and raining outside.

Lighting

The lighting setup is very cheap and simple , at the time i had no idea about lighting and didnt own any lights. The blue light is a small keyring torch i randomly had on my keys,i placed it on the desk, the bottle is standing on the torch causing the light to glow in the bottle. The orange light is a bedroom ceiling bulb,The orange and blue works. It was what i had so i went with it. The background is where the creative fun part takes place and again couldnt be more simple and crude. Its a sheet of kitchenfoil with cardboard behind it to hold it up.The trick/magic to its effect is the crinkles, wherever you pinch /crumple the tinfoil it reflects light and where its smooth it didnt. The lights i was using had very little power and so i used long exposures on a tripod. i used liveview to see the shot.,i tweaked the background foil until it popped out and felt like it had atmosphere/ had balance. I was seeing a busy bar advert type scene in my head. The image is overexposed because at the time if i lowered the exposure time the overall image was too dark and lost all the atmosphere.

Equipment

d5200,50mm ais lens, mini tripod, tinfoil, torch. i was sat my computer desk when taking the shot, setup is only a few feet in size.

Inspiration

I was wanting to use my new camera and it was raining outside . i had been watching the usual beginer photography videos on youtube using fairy lights etc, i cant remember where i first saw the tinfoil idea but liked it and was something i could make in a few minutes. i would of tried more fancy background and lights if i had them.Looking back i wouldnt take a shot like this now because i have more knowledge and lots more equipment which is something i do find an issue as its so easy to create nothing when you have endless possibles . the simple limitations make you use a creative mindset and work with feeling.

Editing

In lightroom i boosted contrast and sharpness.overall wb and colour tweaks.

In my camera bag

At the time i only had the d5200 and the 50mm ais lens , the camera didnt work on auto mode with the lens so was manual exposure and focus.

Feedback

Have fun and go with the vibe you create.
