This photo was taken in Everglades National Park during a three day photo shoot in early February. This was the first time I'd seen a Rosetta Spoonbill in the wild.Time
I started the morning before dawn setting up for sunrise. This Rosetta was just standing in the shallows about 30 minutes after the sun came up.Lighting
It was a cool morning so the sky was clear and there was no need for additional lightning. The sky still had all the warm lighting that occurs at dawn, so it naturally helped intensify the colors.Equipment
I was shooting with a Canon 5D Mark II with. 70-200 EF lens on a Manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
I love natural settings and wildlife so this Spoonbill was ideal with the colors and reflection in the water.Editing
The only post processing was some cropping to cut the clutter out and an incr awe in saturation to deepen the colors. In my camera bag
My Canon 5D Mark II, and Canon lenses: 100mm Macro, 24-70mm and my 70-200mm. I have. Canon flash, and extra batteries and memory cards.Feedback
Be patient! Wildlife and nature do not just pose. Try different exposures, angles and lens, because the smallest change could make all the difference. The earlier the better in the morning, or just before sunset, especially in Florida where the sun rapidly washes out all the colors in the sky. Don't forget your bug repellent because this is their favorite time of day, too.
