What an amazing capture. Focus is dead on and the DOF is perfect to bring the focus in to that magnificent eye. Congratulations on the "Feature". Added to my favorites.

Location
Bays Mountain Park, Kingsport, TNTime
About 2pm. Not a great time generally, but it was winter and overcast.Lighting
Natural lighting, probably overcast and there was a light dusting of snow on the ground, so that helped lighting a bit.Equipment
Canon 40D with a 70-200 f/4 IS L lens. It was handheld at 1/160s, f/4 and ISO 100.Inspiration
They were moving her from the raptor building "on glove" back to her pen. They weigh and check them out to make sure they are healthy, clean their cages, and educate the public about the birds while walking them to and from that building. (they are all non-releasable as they have been injured in one way or another) So I came across them talking about 'Lily', so I took the chance to get some good portraits. This shot is now used on a sign there at the raptor area in the park!Editing
Just basic tweaks in Lightroom. Nothing special. In my camera bag
Canon 7D, 24-105 f/4, the 70-200 and maybe the 10-22 EF-S if I'm prepared for landscape. More likely nowadays, I'll have the Olympus OM-D EM-5, with the Olympus 12-40 f2.8, the 40-150 and 100-300 and maybe swap one out for the Oly 60mm f/2.8 Macro.Feedback
Use a long "portrait" lens of some sort. Hope you have access to someplace awesome like Bays Mountain Park. Keep enough depth of field to get more than just a sliver of focus.
