Behind The Lens

Location

Ellensburg Washington sits in the foothills, on the East side of the Cascade Mountain Range

Time

Mid afternoon drive home I spotted the storm and rainbow, so I got off interstate 90, and started looking for something to put in the photo, with the rainbow. Ellensburg is a farming town with lots of old barns, so really, I got lucky to find one of the oldest barns in Ellensburg. The barn, the storm, and the sun all lined up for this shot.

Lighting

Sometimes you have to wait for the clouds to break, the storm don't last forever

Equipment

I have been using Nikon D5100 with the 18-55 I roll my car window down halfway and use the window edge as a brace

Inspiration

In the moment I seen a big bright rainbow, as a photographer I like the opportunity to catch lots of color, finding the big, red, old barn was a bonus

Editing

I bracketed this photo -2, 0,+2 I used Photomatix HDR software for post processing

In my camera bag

Camera, tripod, Long lens (70-300mm) short lens(18-55)

Feedback

You have to do some storm chasing to get everything to line up. Burn some gas, hike, get out there and observe
