lol.. I wish i had a studio that big.. ;-) They were standing against a dark background, so using the natural light i was able to completely darken the background ;-)

Hi Marie, just wondering if you would be interested in selling the rights to some of your photos. I paint wildlife, and find your images inspiring. I can send you a sample of my work I have done in the past.

Location
This image was taken at my favourite place in Northern Spain, called Cabarceno. Its the largest wildlife park in Europe where the animals live in more or less semi freedom.Time
Was taken about mid afternoon in about 32 degrees heat, full sunshine.. mad dogs and english men and all that..!!! But for a very good reason as all will become clear...Lighting
Natural light, i waited for ages for the pose and position that i was after. The sun was in the right position i just needed the zebras to enter the feeding shelter which was open at the front and closed on the sides and at the back thus creating a plan and dark background. Using -EV i was able to blacken the background even more which created my natural in camera shot.Equipment
Nikon d3s with 80-400 lens, handheld using the fence as balance.Inspiration
I had already been experimenting using natural light and EV compensation to make an in camera dark background and certain enclosures at the park had given the perfect opportunity for this. I like to create perfect in camera shots rather then using PS or LREditing
The only processing was slight adjustments in exposure, contrast and sharpening as it was shot in RAW. To make the image more appealing i dodge & burned around the legs of the zebra to finish the framing effectIn my camera bag
Nikon d3s and D7000 bodies. Lenses 80-400, 85mm, 50mm and 18-105mm a few filters spare cards, batteries etc. I keep my kit really simple if i need a specialised lens i tend to hire it.Feedback
Im a wildlife/animal photographer so my advice would be, study and watch your subject as much as you can, this helps with being able to predict your subjects movements which in turn will help you be in the right place to get that shot you are after. Be patient, Rome wasn't built in a day, practice makes perfect and experiment with settings and don't forget to enjoy your subjects, don't forever watch them through your viewfinder. Experiment with light, go out at different times of the day you will be surprised how much difference a few hours makes. Having great light can make your image.. know your kit and settings inside out so you can change settings without looking so you don't miss that shot.
