Behind The Lens

Location

this was taken in may 2011. i am a rockhound and this is from a rockhounding trip to the vermillion bluffs in princeton,bc. the trail winds its way along a river.

Time

the trip set off at 9am, just outside of town. We hiked along an old decomissioned railway. this picture was taken at around 10am on a overcast day.

Lighting

The sky was overcast so I didnt have any harsh sun to deal with.

Equipment

this was shot, handheld, with a panasonic point and shoot camera DMC-TZ2. It was couple of year before i graduated to my first dslr camera.

Inspiration

I enjoy taking pictures of flowers wherever i go. the macro setting on the panasonic always gave great results. The striking purple of the wildflower was all the inspiration i needed to take this shot.

Editing

this was shot in jpeg mode and basic edits were done in photoshop elements. its been almost 10 years since i shot this so exactly what i did, i cant say. i have since learned lightroom and shoot raw, so i have vastly improved since then.

In my camera bag

At this time i was shooting on the panasonic point and shoot DMC-TZ2. I have since graduated and upgraded my kit. My kit now consists of a Canon 80d, 70-200mm f/4 L series mk1, 18-135mm kit lens, 50mm f/1.8, extension tubes. I carry it all around in a Shimoda 30L bag in blue i ordered from B&H. i support this camera using a Vanguard Veo 2 carbon fibre travel tripod. I have the vello extension tubes for my macro work. For long exposure work i have a 6 stop neutral density filter from hoya and also use a hoya polarizer.

Feedback

get and shoot is the best advice you can get. Practice different setting and learn what your camera and lens can do. Experiment with shutter speeds learning how to best blur or freeze action.
