This photo was taken in a park very near my home during a beautiful winter snowfall. The trees were already frosted and the snow was falling softly. It was so peaceful, and I hoped that I could capture that on film. I am a self taught photographer and took a chance that the light from my flash as well the streetlamp wouldn't wash out the scene.Time
I was born and raised in Minnesota and grew up loving the snow long before moving to Colorado. It was such a serene winter evening in Denver that I decided to take a walk over to the park after dinner and try out some night shots of the frosted landscape. This one was taken about 7:45 in the evening on January 28, 2013.Lighting
I was still experimenting with lighting and wasn't sure if a flash was appropriate or not. The park light gave the scene a warm glow, but it was the flash that lit up the snowflakes which, I think, really made the picture complete!Equipment
This photo was taken with a Sony Nex-C3, 18-55 lens using a flash and no other equipment or tripod.Inspiration
As I mentioned before, I grew up playing in and loving the snow, so couldn't resist the opportunity to capture this perfect winter moment.Editing
I still have a great deal to learn about photography and have not yet delved into the world of photo processing. In my camera bag
Until recently, I just had my trusty Sony Nex-C3, two lenses and tripod, but have recently purchased a Sony a-6000 along with the16-50 and 50-210 lenses as well.Feedback
Although I am not a professional photographer, I am an artist and have worked for many years developing an eye for color and detail. An artist in any medium must take the time needed to develop an understanding of how light, color, and composition affect the outcome of a picture. The most beautiful, and striking photos I have seen are a subtle blending of those three elements which, when combined successfully, draws the viewer into the image and the story it tells. If you can sense the serenity of that winter evening in my photograph, then I was successful - but I have much more to learn and will keep on practicing and experimenting. That's what makes it fun!
