The photo was taken in the town of Mandu - Madhya Pradesh, India. We were on a biking trip to this city of ruins and after riding for 400 kilometers continuously in rain we reached our destination; It was a small shack. The owner of this shack had this cute calf tied and I struck a dialogue with it!Time
It was around 4:00 pm when we reached our destination. With mist and wetness of rain (that had probably stopped minutes before we reached this city of ruins)I headed out to pat this calf that was tied nearby a shack which was our accommodation. It must have been 20 past 4 in the evening (4:20 pm), I unwrapped the polythene that was protecting my camera bag and started experimenting with itLighting
It was foggy and gloomy. Since this place is a hill station, it stays pretty gloomy. Wet afternoons are the best time to take hazy pictures. Since there was low light, aperture had to be kept open completely all the way to f/2.8Equipment
This was shot using Nikkon D3000 camera with 11-16 wide angle Tokina lens. No tripod or flash was usedInspiration
I am a lover of animals. This calf was the first thing I noticed before we entered our accommodation after our bike ride for about 8 hours. It was tied and probably looking for it's mother. It was going round in circles around the post that it was tied to. I went to pat it...I decided to take it's picture before entering our accommodation. Since it could not speak out in human language I decided to voice it out in Black and White!Editing
No post processing was done. I believe in using cameras complete potential before using post processing tools. Instead I take multiple shots with different settings and decide what I like the best.In my camera bag
I always pack my 50mm lens with manual focus. With this lens all objects can be made to look small!! This is contrasted by my wide angle 11-15 Tokina lens. With the wide angle you can make any closer object look stretched and elongated. I like the distortion and the field of view of this lens. Of course lenses are useless without cameras right! So i carry an aging Nikkon D3000 entry level DSLR. Also a kit lens (18-55mm) lies around in the bag.Feedback
Low light photography can be fun and experimental. Taking pictures in black and white can bring about different effects. Mine is experimental photography and it remains fun that way. Switch the focus points off and see the magic of breaking the rules of composition. Use your camera's potential before you step into post processing.
