This was taken in a make-shift "studio" - a black cloth for a background just to above the flower head and natural daylight through a window as light source.Time
Middle of the day or a bright day to get maximum daylight reflection coming through the window.Lighting
I added a handheld white carton from the bottom for extra reflected light.Equipment
I used a Nikon D7000 on a tripod with a Tamron 90mm Macro lens and remote trigger.Inspiration
I live in the Overberg region, South Africa, which is world renowned for it its indigenous flora. I am thus surrounded by the various examples of wildflowers e.g. protea, pincushion, erica, and other fynbos species. This inspired me to photograph them for documentation and possible printing. I like to do it in a "studio" environment where I can manipulate the flower and light and also achieve a more uniform series of photographs.Editing

I have a very compact backpack camera bag which can accommodate all my gear - Nikon D7000 plus its 18-105mm kit lens, a standard Nikkor 50mm lens, a Tamron 90mm Macro lens. And of course, a spare battery, remote trigger and cleaning kit.Feedback
Choose your flower specimen with care, discard old and odd leaves, try and get a clean and /or symmetrical look. Use a small aperture and long exposure with a remote trigger for maximum focus and sharpness. A tripod is therefor a must.
