Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on Ballyholme beach, Bangor, Northern Ireland. 2013

Time

This was taken during the summer, at sunset. so roughly around 8PM I was having a beach party with my friends and was totally captured by the sunset. I also really liked how completely calm the sea was that day. It had been a very rare scorcher of a day.

Lighting

just timing I feel had a lot to do with this image.

Equipment

taken with my dad's old Panasonic DMC-FX500, I frequently "borrowed" my dad's camera, I think it's very important to have a camera on you at all times. There was no tripod, flash or lens used for this image.

Inspiration

I actually thought this image was funny, as the day had been so warm. It was nice to see that myself and friends weren't the only ones enjoying the heatwave and the calm sea. I also really liked how the birds seemed to be almost made out of origami.

Editing

I didn't do much too this image. I used a little bit of curves, levels and hue and saturate within photoshop, just to sharpen the colours and make the birds stand out a little more. I also wanted to make it clear within the image where the water stopped and the sand started.

In my camera bag

At the moment, I only have one camera which is my Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT. I also have my very cheap tripod (cheap, but does the job), my infrared lens (when the moment takes me, ill use it) and a lot of spare CF cards

Feedback

Always have a camera on you, even if it's a simple little digital camera or even your camera phone. You never know when you'll see something amazing you want to capture. I took this image without planning it, I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. I have found that a lot though when I am capturing wildlife, unless going to a zoo. you'll have to play the waiting game or you literally stumble upon it.
