This is 'Harri' when he was young in the front room of my friend's house. I was lying on the floor in the bay window trying to get a photo. He spent most of the time climbing on top of me so this shot was a miracle! I have some photos of this if you'd like to see them! Thanks for voting this as a finalist, I'm really thrilled :)

Aww thank you so much for your lovely comment. It was a pleasure, and Harri had Elana and I in giggles. Maybe a grown up portrait next! xx

Location
This was taken in the front room of my friend's house with a bay window behind me.Time
It was late morning on a bright but not sunny day.Lighting
I preferably wanted to use natural light so positioned my backdrop as near to the window as possible, so we had to move bits of furniture so that I could lie down in front of 'Harri'.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon EOS 50D with a 10-17mm fisheye lens, ISO 400, f4.0, shutter speed 1/50. A material backdrop on stand. I use a tripod sometimes but didn't with this shot - it was hand-heldInspiration
I wanted to practice taking dog portraits and wondered how difficult it would be to take a black dog in front of a black background. As my friend had a young black labrador it seemed a great chance to try it out and of course if I got any good photos my friend could have them. There is another shot of him which is good and when I asked his owners which one they preferred they actually chose the other one as they thought it captured more of the Harri they knew everyday! Everyone else I showed preferred this one. I also have a photo my friend took of me on the floor with Harri on top of me!! He thought I wanted to play. We spent most of the time laughing and after I'd taken a few photos he 'christened' my backdrop material! Luckily it was washable :)Editing
I had to do a bit of post-processing as the backdrop actually looked grey in comparison to the dog. I turned the background into black using photoshop and also got rid of some of his body which was still showing using a mask to make a more pleasing composition. I had another problem in that the material he was lying on had ruffled under his nose partly obscuring the bottom of his face and mouth. Because of this I decided it wasn't good enough for entry into my camera club competition. I then showed it to someone who tells it like it is and she just said 'It's beautiful'. I then entered it into a club competition where it got a Highly Commended and then into the North Wales Photographic Association competition 2013 where I was stunned at it getting the Gold Medal in the Colour Print section. In my camera bag
About a year ago my 6yr old Canon 50D developed a couple of problems so I bought the Canon EOS 70D with a 17-85mm lens which is great for most things. I also carry my fisheye, a 60mm for portraits and macro shots and 80-200 zoom lens. When I haven't got my 'main' camera bag with me I always have my Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 with me which I absolutely love as it's much lighter and gives good results. (I'd love to upgrade it to a newer model when funds allow).Feedback
Possibly get different backdrops and decide which one to use depending on the colour of the dog you're photographing. Decide what type of shot you'd like and base your lighting equipment on that. As I go to people's houses to photograph their pets, I don't always know what the situation will be so you need to have a backup plan and be flexible.
