Location
This was a strawberry farm in Cameron Highlands. It is a hill station covering a large area in northwestern part of Peninsular Malaysia. I was there with my family and we thought hand picking strawberries would be a fun exercise. It was a bit disappointing to see an indoor array (more like amphitheater for plants), since "farm" brings a different scene in our imagination. Nevertheless, I tried to make the best out of the situation to focus on our objective - strawberry here!!Time
It was quite early in the morning for a lazy Cameron holiday. About 9am, when the shops wondering if the shutters must go up... We were the first to get in... So advantage point for composition and timing without any people around! In Cameron, even the sun can feel lazy.. but when it wakes up it will wake you up :)Lighting
The farm was an indoor affair with the roof meticulously designed to keep the amount of light at certain threshold. It might sound challenging but the luminance levels are adequate for photography with natural light.Equipment
I used Canon 700D with EF100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens for this. I shoot with natural light. I do not use complicated equipment. It is my belief that photography must capture the moment and its story and do not like orchestrating the scene for a shot.Inspiration
When we entered the farm, the strawberries revealed themselves in the subterranean setting. Being indoor and closed small area meant this farm was tightly packed. You really need to be healthy and slim to navigate the crevices in that farm for human movement. So obviously, a landscape or even portrait setting was resulting in very cluttered image. I was looking at a way to remove cluttering and focus on one thing and that had to be the theme for our day. So I chose this one strawberry for this picture and all else blurred away. Life is the same... isnt it?!!Editing
I do not manipulate or alter or edit my photos out of my camera. yes its easy to process and bring out the best... but i feel its cheating. When I attended Canon photography classes, I saw real talent who gets the best shots straight off the camera. I just want to build on my skill and craft. So until then, if a shot is not as good, well I will try harder the next time.In my camera bag
I carry Canon 700D with an all-purpose (EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM) , Telephoto (EF70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM), Macro (EF100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM), Ultra-wide angle (EF-S10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM). I also carry my old faithful Sony Nex-3Feedback
Just relax... See an image in your mind and try capturing the same thru your lens. Some courses to translate your image from the mind to settings on the camera you hold will help.... Happy shooting!!
